Gaz and The Machine give their expert footy tips this week in the 2026/2027 EPL Season.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City

Friday, August 28 – Selhurst Park

Palace were pretty ordinary at Everton. They had a few moments, but there wasn’t enough punch going forward and they never really looked like dragging themselves back into it once the game got away from them.

City weren’t exactly flawless against Bournemouth either, but they got the job done. That’s generally the annoying thing about them. You can make them uncomfortable for an hour and then suddenly somebody pops up and ruins your evening.

Selhurst Park can make this awkward, but Palace need to show a hell of a lot more in attack before I’m trusting them against City.

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest

Saturday, August 29 – Anfield

Liverpool’s opener was absolute chaos. Going forward they still looked dangerous, but defensively there were enough gaps to give everyone involved a migraine.

Forest were much flatter against Leeds. They hung around for most of it, but didn’t create enough and eventually got punished late.

Anfield should suit Liverpool here. Forest can make it stubborn for a while, but there’s too much firepower in this Liverpool side if they stop treating defending as an optional side quest.

Bournemouth vs Everton

Saturday, August 29 – Vitality Stadium

Bournemouth gave City a proper game and were only really put away late. After the way they attacked throughout preseason, there still looks to be plenty to like here.

Everton were one of the quieter winners of opening weekend. They handled Palace well, looked organised and suddenly have enough quality in midfield to do something other than simply suffer for 90 minutes.

This feels very even. Bournemouth at home gets the slight lean, but Everton look more than capable of taking something from it.

Coventry City vs Hull City

Saturday, August 29 – Coventry Building Society Arena

Coventry got the full Premier League welcome package at Arsenal, but there’s not much shame in getting handled by the champions away from home.

Hull were outstanding against United. They defended properly, took their chances and looked far more comfortable at this level than anyone expected.

This is a much better test of where both promoted sides actually sit. Hull impressed me more in Week 1, but Coventry at home should make this a proper scrap.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United

Saturday, August 29 – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Spurs spent an absurd amount rebuilding the squad and then opened the season by getting absolutely pumped by Brentford. New manager, new players, same familiar sensation of wondering what on earth Tottenham are doing.

Newcastle were much better against Liverpool. They went toe-to-toe with them, created plenty and looked far more dangerous than some expected after all the summer changes.

Spurs surely improve at home, because the alternative is already becoming very funny. I’m still not trusting them after what they served up last weekend.

Chelsea vs Brighton

Sunday, August 30 – Stamford Bridge

Chelsea’s new era started with a wild one at Fulham. The attack looked dangerous and they got the job done, but there were still enough holes defensively to keep things interesting.

Brighton were arguably the most impressive side of Week 1. They absolutely mauled Villa and looked sharp from the opening whistle.

Chelsea have the home-ground and rest advantage, but Brighton look far too dangerous to dismiss. This has goals written all over it.

Leeds United vs Brentford

Sunday, August 30 – Elland Road

Leeds couldn’t have asked for much more from their return. They went to Forest, stayed in the fight and pinched it late, continuing the strong form they showed before the season started.

Brentford were even better. They absolutely flogged Tottenham and looked quicker, sharper and considerably more organised.

Elland Road will make this difficult, but Brentford were too impressive last week to ignore. This could be one of the better games of the round.

Sunderland vs Fulham

Sunday, August 30 – Stadium of Light

Sunderland weren’t terrible at Ipswich, but they left empty-handed. After last season’s brilliant campaign, this is where we start finding out whether they can actually back it up.

Fulham lost the derby against Chelsea but caused them plenty of problems going forward. There’s enough quality there to make Sunderland uncomfortable.

At home, Sunderland should make this miserable for Fulham, but I don’t see much between them. It has draw written all over it.

Manchester United vs Ipswich Town

Sunday, August 30 – Old Trafford

United were dreadful at Hull. Not unlucky, not one of those games where everything somehow goes against you. They just got beaten by a promoted side that looked more organised and more comfortable than they did.

Ipswich have gone the other direction entirely. They got the job done against Sunderland and have started life back in the Premier League playing with absolutely no fear.

Old Trafford should produce some sort of response from United, and there’s still clearly more individual quality in their side. But trusting them to make this comfortable already feels reckless.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal

Monday, August 31 – Villa Park

Villa’s opening game was an absolute horror show. Brighton ran through them and they looked miles away from the side that was so dangerous last season.

Arsenal had basically the opposite weekend. The champions handled Coventry comfortably and looked every bit like a side that expects to be right back at the pointy end.

Villa Park is normally a nasty away trip, so I don’t expect another flogging. Based on what both sides showed in Week 1 though, Arsenal are comfortably the pick.
